Feature Requests

I love hearing how I can make this site even better for you.

Please leave your comments and suggestions at the bottom of this page and remember that no idea is too big or too small.

  1. phammosays:

Wow, I’ve just discovered zingzing and it completely blows the other TV listings sites away…

There are ineveitably couple of features I would like to see ;) :

    - Click on a programme to get a reminder before starts. Perhaps by email?
    - In non-zoomed mode, hover over a programme to see the full description

    But great site, anyway

  2. nyasays:

It would be really good if I could define my favourite channels and have those displayed first – I usually find there are only about 5 or 6 channels I ever watch so it’s most useful to know what’s on those before I start looking through the other channels.

Or else if I could define my favourite programmes and the site could tell me when it’s next on?

    Either would be good.

  3. Did I miss something, but I can’t find a way of telling zingzing where I live – the BBC Northern Ireland and UTV schedules opt in and out of the main BBC and ITV listings.

    • I have added regional settings to zingzing, (see “channel options” button) along with some NI and Republic of Ireland channels. I am not familiar with what you are able to receive there so will have to research into the best complement / channel order to display.

  4. Robisonsays:

I may just be missing something somewhere but Sky listings is a definite must-have feature; after all you already offer virgin listings. I would have thought it a basic feature.

Also I think it would be great if the genre buttons towards the top of the listings, Movies, Soaps etc., filtered the listings to only show the selection rather than listing them in the pane to the right.

    Thanks for reading my thoughts

    • Thanks for your comments. I have added a ‘Satellite’ option under the channel options dialog that includes Sky 1, Sky 2 and Sky 3 channels. Unfortunately, Sky’s packages are very very complex so I have had to omit the facility to specify this for the moment.

Your second comment about filtering is a tough one to solve but good point none the less. Will keep thinking about this..

  5. Lilysays:

How about a “share” button below the “review this programme” button so that I can email a link to a particular programme to a friend?

  6. Bryonysays:

I’d love to see a category for Arts & Culture – or perhaps Documentaries so I can search to see if there are any programmes that will help with my college study. I suppose there could be infinite categories so I’ll understand if it’s not possible.

Very pleased to have discovered the site – think you’ve got the format just right, really easy and fast to navigate with info fast to load and easy to find – I’ve emailed links to everyone I know – excellent, thanks.

    • Bryony,

Glad you like the site and thanks! You are correct in that there are a lot of categories so it is difficult to cater for all of them. I’m experimenting with a couple of idea’s on how to solve this. The strongest seems to be a drop-down menu containing all of the categories that could behave the same as the buttons.

      Marco

  7. Jsays:

Great site. Would it be possible to indicate which pro grammes are to be broadcast in HD?

    • Hey, interesting one.. I don’t actually receive data on this but could probably cross reference one of the HD channels to infer it. Thanks for the comment and glad you like the site.

  8. John Kimblesays:

Why is the listings screen so small?

Woudl love to be able to make it fullscreen (or at least much bigger) so i can see lots of channels all at once

  9. John Kimblesays:

Well i tried it a bit more and really love it except for the size.

    Two tips:

    Virgin 1 +1 isn’t on Freeview

Neither is UK TV Style – that is a pay tv channel on top up tv

    • Good spot John, Thanks. I have taken out these channels on the Freeview listings. Don’t know how they sneaked in there :-)

The size is tricky one, but fair comment. Any bigger and scrolling will slow down for people with older computers. Will look into how this could be done.

  10. Michealsays:

Wrote on the comments page then found this page:

Wondered how difficult it would be to include a fuction to show Audio Descrition content only? Don’t know if the channel listings this system collects has that data avaible? I.E all content with AD colour and the rest greyed out?

    • Glad you like the site.

Funny you should say that, I was just having a play with similar functionality for the genres. There in no reason why it could not happen the same for AD content. It is still a ways away from making it to the site though on account of a rather annoying flicker..

      Marco

  11. John Kimblesays:

Please add Sky 3, 4 Music, Sky Sports News, BBC Parliament and UKTV History to Freeview listings – many thanks.

Also, maybe take off teachers tv as that only broadcasts on Freeview for 1 hour?

  12. EXCELLENT WORK!!! Great website. Beats itv.com/tv guide which I had been using up to now.

ONE SMALL THING: is there a way I can reorder the channels?

  13. This is a stonking website. Top marks for the user interface: exactly what I’d have wanted if I’d been designing it myself. (I know this for sure, because I described in detail to a friend the other week exactly what I’d like to see in a TV listings site, and when I found zingzing the other day it matched my description exactly!)

One small point: if I set my channel options to Freeview, then the listings include Virgin-1 throughout the day, but when I go downstairs and turn on my actual TV, Virgin-1 doesn’t appear on Freeview until 18:00 (also confirmed by the PDF channel guide at http://www.freeview.co.uk). Could the filtering code be adjusted so that in Freeview mode it only shows me the subset of that channel’s listings which can actually be received via Freeview? (And likewise if there are any other channel/option combinations with similar issues.)

    • Ok, I have fixed Virgin 1 to display the correct programmes in the correct packages. Sorry it took so long to correct but the recent server move had to take priority.

  14. John Kimblesays:

Community channel missing from Freeview section.

Also Five life is now called Fiver

  15. John Kimblesays:

Oh and ITV2 now has a stupid new logo so maybe fix that too?

    • Agreed, the new ITV2 logo has some room to grow. I am informed it was created very much with the new ident’s (station commercials) in mind but does not seem to take in account the web. I am going to hold off on updating the logo until ITV have updated their branding guidelines:

      http://brand.itv.com/

Fundamentally, it is the same logo, just with a bevel.

  16. Jon Kimblesays:

    Thanks for update.

Price drop tv no longer broadcasts on Freeview – please remove and replace with Discovery Quest.

  17. Stefsays:

Great site – use it a lot now.

Currenly when you click Movies I like the fact you can see a summary of Movies in the right hand section of the screen but is there a way of just showing the Movies in the main screen at the same time ? I just want to see when all the Movies are across the channels and don’t want to click each one in turn.

  18. JohnKimblesays:

    CNN International now on Freeview

  19. John Kimblesays:

    Also please add Dave+1

  20. Dereksays:

Great TV Guide site, much better than the rest with the separate ITV HD listing for us Freesat viewers. Any progress on channel order personalisation yet?

    • Derek, glad you like the site & yes there has been but this is no small feat!

I’ve got a couple of tasks out of the way to make it happen:

      1. Move servers + more hard disk space to store all of the grid tiles. (Complete)
      2. Update the grid script for performance and customization (Complete)
      3. Create user interface to reorder channels – In progress

  21. Elliotsays:

Hi, have you considered an xmltv type service for those with media centre software? even a cheap subscription service which could boost revenue for the site without much maintenance i presume as you’re already collating the guide data somehow it just needs publishing differently so once it was set up it would function by itself perhaps, I imagine this would be hugely popular amongst the uk satellite users as grabbing the guide data from dvb-s has only just become possible with mediaportal using a user submitted patch which is brilliant but doesn’t contain any itv hd listings

    Cheers

    • Great idea. It would be fantastic but there are a few reasons why this does not exist at the moment.

      1. It would cost a fourtune to host / serve that amount of data to many users.
      2. It would make the guys I get my data from very unhappy :-)
      3. I also pay a license tied to the amount of traffic I receive. This would impact that figure.

  22. Aidansays:

Option to print zingzing as a tv guide would be handy , I dont have broadband at home. i have also logged this in the forum and then found this page

    Well done zingzing
    Aidan

    • Nicsays:

This is the best TV listings site I have seen. It would be good if it could schedule a recording; perhaps as another option in the ‘Reminders’ feature and preferably schedule the recording in TV Scheduler Pro. The user would need to be able to configure some basic details such as the local IP address and port where TV Scheduler Pro is running on the local network.

  23. robertsays:

    Marco—-
I could do with a ‘more persistent’ config store than that currently offered or otherwise borne inside of a cookie. I have to clear cache and other settings pretty often while editing sites and my server… which then loses me your site’s configuration settings;~/
    —-best wishes, Robert

  24. Robsays:

    Hello,

This is the best and most feature-rich TV Listings website I know! One small thing I would like is the ability to automatically add new programmes in a series to Google Calendar. Rather than having to add each programme manually, you just click something which will add all other programmes in the series to a Calendar.

  25. chris mcgowansays:

Magnificent, well thought out, user friendly, brilliantly designed skin/look. My sat reciever only looks 2hrs ahead so great to be able to plan ahead for a decent 9pm movie and other programmes. Thanks Nic,and same to anyone who has helped,Luvvinnit.

  26. chris mcgowansays:

    OOOOPs, I mean “THANKYOU ZINGZING”

  27. chrislayeruksays:

This is a great site. I dont watch much TV but I use it to look for programs I do like.
The lay out is simple and the content impressive.
Any chance of Radio on here?

Possibly the best practical day to day site on the net.
    Well done, Chris

  28. Mesays:

Oops, i typed this in the ‘Access Keys’ bit but should’ve put it in here, so sorry if i’m duplicating…here it is again (in the right place!): Hi, will you be automatically changing Virgin 1 to Channel One and is there any way of the user being able to delete the ‘London’, ‘England’ & ‘Freeview’ from our individual saved options? I use this every day in conjunction with Google Calander but have to keep deleting them every time i want to add and save a programme i want to see. Otherwise…excellent work ZingZing! Thanks.

  29. Philsays:

Please add the Food Network UK listings

  30. Darrensays:

Hi, I really love this site and i use it to sync with my google calendar so I can get event reminders on my android phone.
The only thing is that I have to manually add reminders every week for the same show in a series.
Any chance of getting a series link option when adding reminders?
    Thanks

  31. Donsays:

    Hi

After a lot of googling I finally found a site worth customising and bookmarking (clue: it’s this one).

Two suggestions: customising colours (I’m not a fan of magenta), and a horizontal/vertical option.

We scan (when reading) from left to right, hence a vertical listing may be preferred. Also, Klingon blood is magenta, and tribbles may have bat’leths.

    Qapla’!

  32. Rogersays:

    Hi,

Would it be possible to add an HD caption, to the native HD program text on ITVHD, and BBC1HD when it starts next month?

Also a caption for repeats would be useful.

    regards,
    Roger

  33. davesays:

I switched here when UKTV became suddenly dreadful. A really good feature would be to save my settings, so once i have selected freesat, and hidden all the shopping channels, high def, etc, I can save that profile and not have to do it everytime I visit. perhaps it’s already possible but I can’t work it out.

  34. Rosiesays:

I can’t save the Channel & Regional selection. Every time I switch off the selection reverts to the default settings. I know there were some comments on here a while ago about this problem but can’t remember what the solution was. Can you remind me? Many thanks.

  35. foopsays:

would love an app like this on my android phone…

  36. john largesays:

Hi ZingZing The site just gets better and better been using it almost from day one keep up the great work.
one request can you please add the new bbc1hd to the mix for freesat Thanks.

    John L

  37. Chrissays:

Can you please add BBC One HD.

Granted, the channel basically mirrors BBC One, but even so…

  38. Jacksays:

I love it: easy 5 channel view immediately and due to its key scrolling action sideways, up and down it stops the need for mouse overuse, thanks.

  39. Davesays:

i notice that the movie buttom does not include all the movies?

  40. admsays:

A simple request – an option to start in fullscreen mode.

Great site, use it a lot, but having to put it in fullscreen manually every single time is very irritating…

    adm.

  41. Domsays:

this site is simply brilliant. It should be nominated for an internet award! Well done!
Made my life easier and therefore I thank you!

  42. Edsays:

It rocks so much, how about a touchscreen phone version? Thanks so much making this a free service though I be happy to pay for it if I had to.

  43. jonsays:

thanks for an easy to use site. I’m sure behind the scenes there are heroic efforts,

On the UK epg guide of my usb tv device it shows the title of each southpark episode shown. Your current guide shows just the description of the episode and not the title.

My behaviour is to record that programme while am drunk or asleep, but the automatic file name does not reference the episode title so often try to look up the title of the episode on your site as the epg on my device is not retrospective.

I can’t believe I am asking you to do this, but as your listings are retrospective for a few days, I could in theory look up the title information of the Southpark episodes on uk Viva channel, but you don’t currently show that iformation, just a description of the episode.

On the chance that you don’t have a life, can you include the episode title of Southpark episodes and not just a description, so I can look back on recorded episodes via your site to get that information.

oh dear, i’m drunk, but really do like your format of displaying the telly, many thanks.

    best regards jon goldman

  44. TJsays:

This is the best freeview site I have found. But the automatic advert targetting is very annoying so go to the ‘citeo’ link on the adverts and turn it off….
    No more personal intrusions

    Luverleee

  45. Phil Ksays:

very good, would be nice if there was a way to flag/unflag programmes that you want to watch, so you can get an evenings schedule together..

  46. Martecsays:

Will we be getting a new ITV1+1 option ?

Also I see we no longer have listings for ITV4+1 although the channel is still available on Freesat and can be manually tuned in for SKY.

  47. Hi There,

Can i just say your TV listings site is Brilliant! Informative easy to use & easy to understand, well done , keep up the good work & thankyou.

  48. Michaelsays:

    Hi

Any chance of a Sky Record button directly linked to sky plus like some other sites and Iphone apps have?

PS – Fantastic site, easily the best listings site out there!!

  49. michaelsays:

    Hi

Could you introduce a login so that settings can be saved

When i run CCLeaner my cookies and settings get wiped for your site

    Mick

  50. Barrysays:

    Great site.

I would love a favourite programmes feature which could automatically add reminders for each show to a Google calendar.

Maybe this could be done with generating a dynamic iCal link to use with Google Calendar’s Add by URL feature?
