Wow, I’ve just discovered zingzing and it completely blows the other TV listings sites away…

There are ineveitably couple of features I would like to see ;) :

    - Click on a programme to get a reminder before starts. Perhaps by email?
    - In non-zoomed mode, hover over a programme to see the full description

    But great site, anyway

  2. nya says:

It would be really good if I could define my favourite channels and have those displayed first – I usually find there are only about 5 or 6 channels I ever watch so it’s most useful to know what’s on those before I start looking through the other channels.

Or else if I could define my favourite programmes and the site could tell me when it’s next on?

    Either would be good.

  3. Did I miss something, but I can’t find a way of telling zingzing where I live – the BBC Northern Ireland and UTV schedules opt in and out of the main BBC and ITV listings.

    • zingzing says:

I have added regional settings to zingzing, (see “channel options” button) along with some NI and Republic of Ireland channels. I am not familiar with what you are able to receive there so will have to research into the best complement / channel order to display.

  4. Robison says:

I may just be missing something somewhere but Sky listings is a definite must-have feature; after all you already offer virgin listings. I would have thought it a basic feature.

Also I think it would be great if the genre buttons towards the top of the listings, Movies, Soaps etc., filtered the listings to only show the selection rather than listing them in the pane to the right.

    Thanks for reading my thoughts

    • zingzing says:

Thanks for your comments. I have added a ‘Satellite’ option under the channel options dialog that includes Sky 1, Sky 2 and Sky 3 channels. Unfortunately, Sky’s packages are very very complex so I have had to omit the facility to specify this for the moment.

Your second comment about filtering is a tough one to solve but good point none the less. Will keep thinking about this..

  5. Lily says:

How about a “share” button below the “review this programme” button so that I can email a link to a particular programme to a friend?

  6. Bryony says:

I’d love to see a category for Arts & Culture – or perhaps Documentaries so I can search to see if there are any programmes that will help with my college study. I suppose there could be infinite categories so I’ll understand if it’s not possible.

Very pleased to have discovered the site – think you’ve got the format just right, really easy and fast to navigate with info fast to load and easy to find – I’ve emailed links to everyone I know – excellent, thanks.

    • zingzing says:

      Bryony,

Glad you like the site and thanks! You are correct in that there are a lot of categories so it is difficult to cater for all of them. I’m experimenting with a couple of idea’s on how to solve this. The strongest seems to be a drop-down menu containing all of the categories that could behave the same as the buttons.

      Marco

  7. J says:

Great site. Would it be possible to indicate which pro grammes are to be broadcast in HD?

    • zingzing says:

Hey, interesting one.. I don’t actually receive data on this but could probably cross reference one of the HD channels to infer it. Thanks for the comment and glad you like the site.

  8. John Kimble says:

Why is the listings screen so small?

Woudl love to be able to make it fullscreen (or at least much bigger) so i can see lots of channels all at once

  9. John Kimble says:

Well i tried it a bit more and really love it except for the size.

    Two tips:

    Virgin 1 +1 isn’t on Freeview

Neither is UK TV Style – that is a pay tv channel on top up tv

    • zingzing says:

Good spot John, Thanks. I have taken out these channels on the Freeview listings. Don’t know how they sneaked in there :-)

The size is tricky one, but fair comment. Any bigger and scrolling will slow down for people with older computers. Will look into how this could be done.

  10. Micheal says:

Wrote on the comments page then found this page:

Wondered how difficult it would be to include a fuction to show Audio Descrition content only? Don’t know if the channel listings this system collects has that data avaible? I.E all content with AD colour and the rest greyed out?

    • zingzing says:

      Glad you like the site.

Funny you should say that, I was just having a play with similar functionality for the genres. There in no reason why it could not happen the same for AD content. It is still a ways away from making it to the site though on account of a rather annoying flicker..

      Marco

  11. John Kimble says:

Please add Sky 3, 4 Music, Sky Sports News, BBC Parliament and UKTV History to Freeview listings – many thanks.

Also, maybe take off teachers tv as that only broadcasts on Freeview for 1 hour?

  12. David Maher says:

EXCELLENT WORK!!! Great website. Beats itv.com/tv guide which I had been using up to now.

ONE SMALL THING: is there a way I can reorder the channels?

  13. Simon Tatham says:

This is a stonking website. Top marks for the user interface: exactly what I’d have wanted if I’d been designing it myself. (I know this for sure, because I described in detail to a friend the other week exactly what I’d like to see in a TV listings site, and when I found zingzing the other day it matched my description exactly!)

One small point: if I set my channel options to Freeview, then the listings include Virgin-1 throughout the day, but when I go downstairs and turn on my actual TV, Virgin-1 doesn’t appear on Freeview until 18:00 (also confirmed by the PDF channel guide at http://www.freeview.co.uk). Could the filtering code be adjusted so that in Freeview mode it only shows me the subset of that channel’s listings which can actually be received via Freeview? (And likewise if there are any other channel/option combinations with similar issues.)

    • zingzing says:

Ok, I have fixed Virgin 1 to display the correct programmes in the correct packages. Sorry it took so long to correct but the recent server move had to take priority.

  14. John Kimble says:

Community channel missing from Freeview section.

Also Five life is now called Fiver

  15. John Kimble says:

Oh and ITV2 now has a stupid new logo so maybe fix that too?

    • zingzing says:

Agreed, the new ITV2 logo has some room to grow. I am informed it was created very much with the new ident’s (station commercials) in mind but does not seem to take in account the web. I am going to hold off on updating the logo until ITV have updated their branding guidelines:

      http://brand.itv.com/

Fundamentally, it is the same logo, just with a bevel.

  16. Jon Kimble says:

    Thanks for update.

Price drop tv no longer broadcasts on Freeview – please remove and replace with Discovery Quest.

  17. Stef says:

Great site – use it a lot now.

Currenly when you click Movies I like the fact you can see a summary of Movies in the right hand section of the screen but is there a way of just showing the Movies in the main screen at the same time ? I just want to see when all the Movies are across the channels and don’t want to click each one in turn.

  18. JohnKimble says:

    CNN International now on Freeview

  19. John Kimble says:

    Also please add Dave+1

  20. Derek says:

Great TV Guide site, much better than the rest with the separate ITV HD listing for us Freesat viewers. Any progress on channel order personalisation yet?

    • zingzing says:

Derek, glad you like the site & yes there has been but this is no small feat!

I’ve got a couple of tasks out of the way to make it happen:

      1. Move servers + more hard disk space to store all of the grid tiles. (Complete)
      2. Update the grid script for performance and customization (Complete)
      3. Create user interface to reorder channels – In progress

  21. Elliot says:

Hi, have you considered an xmltv type service for those with media centre software? even a cheap subscription service which could boost revenue for the site without much maintenance i presume as you’re already collating the guide data somehow it just needs publishing differently so once it was set up it would function by itself perhaps, I imagine this would be hugely popular amongst the uk satellite users as grabbing the guide data from dvb-s has only just become possible with mediaportal using a user submitted patch which is brilliant but doesn’t contain any itv hd listings

    Cheers

    • zingzing says:

Great idea. It would be fantastic but there are a few reasons why this does not exist at the moment.

      1. It would cost a fourtune to host / serve that amount of data to many users.
      2. It would make the guys I get my data from very unhappy :-)
      3. I also pay a license tied to the amount of traffic I receive. This would impact that figure.

  22. Aidan says:

Option to print zingzing as a tv guide would be handy , I dont have broadband at home. i have also logged this in the forum and then found this page

    Well done zingzing
    Aidan

    • Nic says:

This is the best TV listings site I have seen. It would be good if it could schedule a recording; perhaps as another option in the ‘Reminders’ feature and preferably schedule the recording in TV Scheduler Pro. The user would need to be able to configure some basic details such as the local IP address and port where TV Scheduler Pro is running on the local network.

  23. robert says:

    Marco—-
I could do with a ‘more persistent’ config store than that currently offered or otherwise borne inside of a cookie. I have to clear cache and other settings pretty often while editing sites and my server… which then loses me your site’s configuration settings;~/
    —-best wishes, Robert

  24. Rob says:

    Hello,

This is the best and most feature-rich TV Listings website I know! One small thing I would like is the ability to automatically add new programmes in a series to Google Calendar. Rather than having to add each programme manually, you just click something which will add all other programmes in the series to a Calendar.

  25. chris mcgowan says:

Magnificent, well thought out, user friendly, brilliantly designed skin/look. My sat reciever only looks 2hrs ahead so great to be able to plan ahead for a decent 9pm movie and other programmes. Thanks Nic,and same to anyone who has helped,Luvvinnit.

  26. chris mcgowan says:

    OOOOPs, I mean “THANKYOU ZINGZING”

  27. chrislayeruk says:

This is a great site. I dont watch much TV but I use it to look for programs I do like.
The lay out is simple and the content impressive.
Any chance of Radio on here?

Possibly the best practical day to day site on the net.
    Well done, Chris
