Series 23 · The Blacktrees Prophecy
The village of Blacktrees-on-Marsh has long been haunted by a Cold War prophecy, prompting a small group of locals to form Midsomer’s first doomsday prepper group. Founded two decades ago by the obsessive Warren Kaine, the group provides comfort to its paranoid members - until the morning Warren receives a hoax call that nuclear missiles have launched. Racing to his bombproof underground bunker, he radios the others to join him. But as dawn breaks over village green serenity rather than a scorched earth, Warren's resentful wife Clodagh arrives at the shelter to find him dead. Pathologist Fleur Perkins discovers Warren was suffocated after someone with technical skills tampered with the air filter. As DCI John Barnaby and DS Jamie Winter investigate, they must determine if someone was desperate to get their hands on the bunker, or if a killer is targeting the preppers. The pressure is on to catch the culprit before they strike again.
